Account Types & Settings
FinWise supports many account types, each with specific settings. Understand the different account types and how to configure them for accurate tracking.
Account Types
FinWise supports: Checking, Savings, Credit Card, Loan, Investment, Property, Vehicle, and Other.
Account Settings
Each account has configurable settings:
β’ Include in Net Worth - Whether to count this account in your Dashboard net worth calculation
β’ Exclude from Budget - Hide this account's transactions from budget tracking
β’ Invert Balance - Invert the account balance (useful if assets show as liabilities or vice versa)
Access these by clicking the gear icon on any account.
Liability vs Asset
Accounts are automatically classified as assets (positive value) or liabilities (negative value):
β’ Assets: Checking, Savings, Investment, Property
β’ Liabilities: Credit Card, Loan
This affects how they contribute to your net worth.
Setting Account Balance
For manual accounts or to correct sync issues, you can manually set the balance:
1. Go to the account details
2. Click "Set Balance"
3. Enter the current balance
This creates a balance adjustment without affecting your transaction history.
Archiving Accounts
If you close an account or no longer need to track it:
1. Open account settings
2. Open Advanced Settings
3. Click "Archive Account"
Archived accounts are hidden from views but their transaction history is preserved. You can unarchive anytime.
