Connecting Your Bank

2 min read

Connect your bank accounts, credit cards, and investment accounts to FinWise for automatic transaction syncing. We partner with secure data providers to make this process safe and seamless.

How Bank Connections Work

FinWise uses industry-leading secure data providers (Plaid, Yodlee, GoCardless) to connect to your financial institutions. Your credentials are encrypted and never stored on our servers.

Once connected, your transactions are automatically imported daily, and FinWise uses AI to categorize them for you.

Connecting Your First Account

Navigate to the Accounts page and click "New Account". Search for your bank or financial institution by name.

You will be redirected to a secure login page provided by one of our data providers. Enter your banking credentials as you normally would.

After authentication, select which accounts you want to sync with FinWise. You can connect multiple accounts from the same institution at once.

Supported Institutions

We support thousands of financial institutions across the United States, Europe, and South Africa, including:

β€’ Major banks (Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Citibank, etc.)

β€’ Credit unions and regional banks

β€’ Investment platforms (Vanguard, Fidelity, Robinhood, Betterment, etc.)

β€’ Credit card companies

β€’ South African banks (FNB, Standard Bank, Nedbank, Absa, Investec, etc.)

Troubleshooting Connection Issues

If you encounter issues connecting your bank:

β€’ Verify your credentials are correct

β€’ Check if your bank requires multi-factor authentication

β€’ Try connecting again in a few hours (some banks have temporary outages)

β€’ Contact support if the issue persists – we can investigate connection problems

Security & Privacy

Your security is our top priority. We use bank-level encryption and never store your banking credentials. Our data providers are audited and comply with industry standards including SOC 2 and ISO 27001.

You can disconnect any account at any time from the account settings page.

Reconnecting Disconnected Accounts

Accounts may need reconnection when you change your bank password, your bank requires periodic re-authentication, or there's a temporary connection issue.

To reconnect: Go to the Accounts page, find the account with the "Reconnect" badge, click it, and log in through the secure connection window.
