Account Groups
Account groups let you organize your Accounts page into sections that match how you think about your money — for example "Joint", "Savings goals", or "Business". Groups are purely organizational: they change how accounts are displayed and totaled, never the accounts or transactions themselves.
Default Groups by Type
Out of the box, FinWise organizes your accounts into default groups based on their account type: Credit, Depository (everyday checking, savings, and cash), Investments, Property, Vehicles, Loans, Rewards, and Other. A group only appears when you have at least one account in it.
You can keep these defaults as they are, rename and reorder them, or create your own custom groups — whatever fits the way you want to see your accounts.
Creating a Group
On the Accounts page (web) or the Accounts tab (mobile), open the more-options menu (the ⋮ icon) and choose "New Account Group". Give the group a name, and it appears as a new section on the page.
Assigning Accounts to a Group
There are two ways to put an account into a group:
• Open the account, and set the "Group" field in its settings.
• On the web app, drag an account from one group into another directly on the Accounts page. On mobile, use the Reorder screen (see below) to move accounts between groups.
Any account you haven't explicitly assigned automatically falls into the default group for its type. If it doesn't match a group, it appears in the Ungrouped section.
Renaming and Deleting Groups
Each group has its own menu for renaming or deleting it. On the web app, hover over the group and click the ⋮ icon next to its name; on mobile, tap the ⋮ icon on the group.
When you delete a group that still contains accounts, FinWise asks where to move those accounts (another group or Ungrouped) before removing the group.
Deleting a group never deletes your accounts or their transactions — the accounts are simply moved to the group you choose.
Reordering Groups and Accounts
You control the order in which groups and accounts appear. On the web app, drag a group header to move the whole group, or drag an account within a group or across to another group.
On mobile, open the more-options menu and choose "Reorder". Drag the groups into the order you want, then turn on "Show accounts" to drag individual accounts — including moving them between groups.
Sorting
Beyond manual ordering, you can sort groups and the accounts inside them automatically. Open the more-options menu and choose the sort option ("Sort Account Groups By" on web, "Sort" on mobile).
• Manual – keep the custom order you set by dragging.
• Name – order alphabetically.
• By value – order by balance, largest to smallest (or smallest to largest).
Group order and account order are set independently, so you can, for example, keep your groups in a manual order while sorting the accounts inside each one by value.
The Ungrouped Section
Any account that isn't matched to a group appears under "Ungrouped" at the bottom of the page. This section only shows when you have at least one unassigned account, making it easy to spot accounts that still need a home.
