The Mission of FinWise

By Jason Russell, CEO and Co-Founder of FinWise

Our goal at FinWise is to help people be smarter with their money, so that people can be more financially comfortable, secure and happy.

We fundamentally believe that the world would be a better place if fewer people worried about their personal finances. The less people worried about their finances, the more they can focus on and enjoy things more important to them, whether that be raising a family, starting a business, traveling, doing hobbies or just enjoying more of what life has to offer.

Our goal is to empower people to make smarter financial decisions by giving them the tools and information they need in order to live a more financially healthy, comfortable and secure life. From our experience in the personal finance world, there is nobody more truly motivated to help people achieve their financial goals than themselves, this is why we think its crucial to help empower and enable people directly.

It is our view that there are far too many people worrying about their finances in the world, whether that be things like worrying about not having enough cash for the end of the month, stress about paying off debt, or concern about not being able to retire comfortably. Here are some concerning statistics and reports for example:

  • 71% of Americans identify money as a significant cause of stress in their lives. [1]
  • 72% of Americans reported feeling stressed about money at least some time in the prior month. [2]
  • 76% of households live paycheck-to-paycheck. [3]

This is a very big problem if you think about it. Imagine how much better the world could be if these people didn't have to worry so much, and could focus more on their families, careers, following their passions and just enjoying more of life. Imagine if all these people were just happier and less stressed.

Our plan is to make FinWise the most useful and impactful personal finance management tool in the world, that helps people to take control of their finances, and that gives them comfort and confidence about their money, and that people absolutely love to use.

We are still very early on in our journey as of writing this in June '24. FinWise currently has some basic tools like budgeting, net-worth tracking and reports & spending insights. But over time we plan on adding many more tools and functionality like a retirement & financial independence planner to help people plan for their retirement, a financial health score to help people determine if they are in a good financial standing, an AI assistant that people can speak to about anything related to their finances (Think Siri, but for all your personal finances), and also a community and knowledge base where people can engage and get truthful, unbiased help and information.

This all said, we're all too familiar with just how daunting and confusing personal finances can be for people, so our aim is to provide all these tools and information in a way that is extremely simple, easy and intuitive, whilst still being powerful and comprehensive. So in much the same way that an iPhone is able to be useful and enjoyed by both a grandma and a hardcore tech enthusiast, we want FinWise to be the same for people who are completely new to personal finance, but also for people who are more advanced with more experience.

So this is what our mission and master plan is in a nutshell, I think it's fairly ambitions, but we're starting off small and moving forward one step at a time, and we are extremely motivated and committed to achieving this.
