FinWise
Mint.com

Beautiful, intuitive design

FinWise has a clean, modern interface designed to be intuitive, easy to use but still powerful.
Mint has a clunky and dated design, which was difficult and slow to use.

Extremely accurate auto-categorization

FinWise has an extremely accurate and reliable transaction auto-categorization engine which learns and improves as you use it.
Mint's auto-categorization would constantly make mistakes and need to be corrected.

No ads, ever

FinWise charges a small subscription fee to support the business, we will never show you ads or sell your data.
Mint would show ads and sold customer data to generate revenue.

Multi currency

FinWise supports 100+ currencies worldwide, and you can link accounts from all over the world.
Mint would count CAD and USD transactions as if they were in the same currency, and did not have support for international accounts.

Collaborative budgeting

FinWise makes it easy to budget and manage your money collaboratively with your partner or family.
Mint had no ability to collaborate or share budgets with your family.

When you might pick Mint instead

Mint shut down in March 2024, so picking Mint is no longer an option. Intuit redirected existing Mint users to Credit Karma, but Credit Karma is a credit-monitoring product — it does not replace Mint's budgeting, account-aggregation, or net-worth features. If you specifically want a free, US-only product backed by ads and credit-card affiliate revenue, Credit Karma is the closest fit. For actual personal-finance management, you need a Mint successor like FinWise.

Migrating from Mint to FinWise

You can bring your full history into FinWise in a few minutes. Here is what to expect:
  1. Export your data from Mint or Credit Karma. If you still have access, export your transactions and accounts as CSV. Intuit kept Mint exports available through Credit Karma for some users — check there first.
  2. Sign up for FinWise. Create a free FinWise account. The free tier covers manual accounts and CSV import indefinitely; upgrade only when you want live bank linking and the full feature set.
  3. Connect your banks. FinWise supports the US and Canada via Plaid, the UK and EU via GoCardless, and South Africa via Gathr. Once linked, balances and new transactions sync automatically.
  4. Import your Mint history. Use FinWise’s CSV import to bring in your full Mint transaction history. Categories and merchants are normalized automatically and you can adjust rules afterwards.
  5. Recreate your budget. Rebuild your monthly categories in FinWise. FinWise budgets are more flexible than Mint’s — you can roll unspent amounts forward, split shared categories across a household, and plan future months.

Cleaner and more affordable than Monarch and CoPilot, and much better for budgeting and trends.
