Income-adjusted
Here's what a proportional split would look like.
Person A pays R12,000. Person B pays R6,000.

The two splits
Here's what a proportional split would look like. 50/50 divides the R18,000 shared cost in half. Income-adjusted follows the two take-home amounts.
| 50/50 | Income-adjusted | |
|---|---|---|
| Person A pays | R9,000 15% of their income | R12,000 20% of their income |
| Person B pays | R9,000 30% of their income | R6,000 20% of their income |
| Person A has left | R51,000 | R48,000 |
| Person B has left | R21,000 | R24,000 |
The link only has the amounts. No names, and FinWise does not store the split.

Assumptions
- Default illustration: Person A R60,000, Person B R30,000, rent R18,000, and no other shared bills. 50/50 is R9,000 each. Income-adjusted is R12,000 and R6,000.
- Income-adjusted means each person pays the same share of their own take-home. On the default, that share is 20% for both.
- Shares are rounded to the nearest cent. Person A takes any leftover cent so the two amounts still add up to the shared cost.
- Take-home is after PAYE and UIF. A gross salary would make the higher earner look more able to pay than the money that actually arrives.
- What is left is take-home minus that person's share of the shared cost. It is not a budget. Food, transport, and debt that one person pays alone still come out of it.
- A zero income pays nothing on the income-adjusted split. 50/50 still splits the cost in half. If both incomes are zero, only 50/50 is shown.
- The share link contains only the amounts. FinWise does not store the split. The link does not ask for a name or an email.
