Welcome to the FinWise Blog

Welcome to the FinWise blog. This is where we write plain-language notes about budgeting, debt, salaries, investing basics, and how to track your own money without being sold a product.
FinWise is importer-first. We help you organise accounts you already have, across South African banks and other currencies, then budget and plan from that picture. We do not sell investments or banking products inside the app.
What you will find here
- South Africa comparisons, like best budgeting apps in South Africa.
- Cost-of-living sketches, such as Cape Town on R50k and Pretoria on R40k.
- Investing basics in rand terms, starting with what an ETF is (and how a TFSA fits).
- Debt explainers, including debt restructuring explained, written carefully and without legal advice claims.
- Product notes when FinWise ships something useful to say.
Free calculators when you want numbers
Reading is one half. Running your own numbers is the other. Start at the calculators hub, or jump straight to:
- Rent vs buy (South Africa)
- Salary needed (South Africa)
- Debt payoff calculator
- Can I afford this car?
- When will I become a millionaire?
- Should I invest or pay off my bond?
- Retirement calculator
How we write
We prefer clear South African framing (rand, PAYE, local banks) when the topic is local. We say when something is a planning aid, not advice. If a product detail changes, treat the live product page as the source of truth.
